Qureshi doesn't believe in restrictive, difficult diets. "If you are on a diet, you don't have to eat just a cucumber," she says. "Healthy food can be a perfectly balanced meal and that won't take your eyes off your goal. As human beings, we thrive on going out and eating at restaurants. You don't want to miss out on that sense of community feel because you are watching your diet. People have this idea that you have to punish yourself and your body in order to look a certain way."
Qureshi is a foodie who believes in making every meal both nutritious and delicious. "I don't believe in starving," she says. "It has to be like the right nutrients, cooked well, and the taste should also be good."
Qureshi embraces workouts which are challenging for her, sharing footage on her show Fit Fab Feast With Huma Qureshi. "Right from Pilates to CrossFit to working out at home with big water bottles can be difficult," she says. "Even going to a place where you can bounce and jump on a trampoline can be difficult … There are 10 episodes and you will see me do a different workout in every episode. There's an episode documenting my interactions with a female stunt-person too … Good reality shows are usually the ones in which people reveal a part of their personality which you would normally not see."
Qureshi loves doing Pilates sessions with a personal trainer. "I don't practice Pilates to look good, I do it to feel good," she says. "I want to lose weight well, by building strength and muscle. I discovered muscles I didn't know I had… When I started working out, my core felt strong, and my level of concentration increased. I've learned to listen to my body. I'm more aware of my posture – I don't slouch when I sit and maintain posture when I walk or run."
Qureshi works out because she loves her body and wants to support her health. "We need to learn how to love ourselves and erase this notion that working out means torturing ourselves or punishing ourselves after our favorite meal," she says. "Why don't you tell yourself that I am going to run today because the air is beautiful or that I am hitting the treadmill to listen to my favorite podcast … Listen to your own body and then you don't need a trainer, a fancy gym membership or fancier gym gear."
