NBA Hall of Fame forward and Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce revealed the cause of his finger injury during Monday's edition of Undisputed.

Pierce explained that he was working out and had a 45-pound plate on his back while he was planking before the plate fell onto his hand, resulting in a gruesome injury.

"Finger smashed open, bone came out," he said (h/t TMZ Sports). "I drove myself to the hospital. Got the surgery. Went home and drunk a cup of coffee. That's it."

Pierce initially announced the injury on Friday when it occurred, although the cause wasn't known. He assured fans that the surgery went well and the injury looked worse than it felt in a post on X.

Pierce is a Celtics icon, with his jersey officially retired by the team in Feb. 2018. In 15 seasons with the organization, he averaged 21.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on 44.7/37.0/80.6 shooting splits.

Pierce helped the Celtics go on several deep playoff runs during his time with the organization, including a 2008 NBA Finals victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. He also spent time with the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Clippers after he was traded by Boston in 2013.

With the Celtics currently set to host the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals, Pierce's injury shouldn't stop him from expressing his support for his former team in the midst of another postseason journey.
